What Heat Local collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect little, never sell it, and never show who signed up.
Who we are
Heat Local is run by [Legal name of the organization], [Mailing address]. In this policy, “we” means Heat Local. Questions go to hello@[yourdomain].
What we collect
When you say you’ll be there: your email address, the town and the law.
When you sign up to organize: your first name, email address, town and the law you picked.
When you ask us to email you about a town or county: your email address and the place.
When you tip: Stripe processes the payment. We receive your name, email address and the amount, not your card number.
When you report a result after a meeting: what you tell us about the vote and turnout.
Teachers give an email address. Students join with a class code and give no names or emails.
When you visit: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address, browser type and pages visited, for security and to keep the site running.
The script on each town page has blanks for your name and street. Those stay on your device; we don’t collect them.
How we use it
To send what you asked for: meeting dates, calendar invites, the script, reminders and one follow-up after the meeting.
To show counts on town pages, such as how many neighbors are going. We never show who.
To offer introductions to people near you who signed up. We share your name and email only if you both say yes.
To see which towns people care about, so we know which codes to read next.
To keep the site secure and working.
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Who we share it with
Only the companies that run parts of the site for us, and only what each one needs: our hosting provider, our database provider, our email service, and Stripe for tips. They may not use your information for anything else.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
Your choices
Every email has an unsubscribe link.
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time by emailing hello@[yourdomain]. We’ll answer within 30 days.
These rights apply wherever you live, including under state laws such as California’s.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you’re signed up for a town. If you unsubscribe from everything or ask us to delete it, we delete it within 30 days, except what we must keep for tax or legal records, such as tip receipts.
Children
Heat Local is for adults. The classroom unit is run by teachers; students join with a class code and don’t give personal information. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think we have, email us and we’ll delete it.
Security
We use encrypted connections and limit who can see sign-up information. No system is perfectly secure, so we collect only what we need.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version here with a new date. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, we’ll email you first.
